Introduction

This website visualizes the marine environment in the northwest Pacific region (NOWPAP region) based on the information provided from China, Japan, Korea and Russia. The website is established by the Northwest Pacific Region Environmental Cooperation Center (NPEC) to understand the state of the marine environment in the NOWPAP sea area. At present, following two maps of the NOWPAP region have been developed and open to the public.

Background

NOWPAP was established in September 1994 as a part of the Regional Seas Programme of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Currently, China, Japan, Korea and Russia are members of NOWPAP. Each member state hosts one of four Reginal Activity Centres (RACs) of NOWPAP. In Japan, NPEC is designated as Special Monitoring & Coastal Environmental Assessment Regional Activity Centre (CEARAC).
